NORTH DEVON GARDENS

If you love gardens then we have plenty on offer in North Devon for you to explore :

RHS Rosemoor, Great Torrington

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Grand Opening by Sue Biggs CBE, Director General of the Royal Horticultural Society of The Garden Room at RHS Rosemoor at Torrington yesterday and I must say it certainly has the WOW factor.   Constructed from local stone and wood it sits beautifully overlooking the panorama of the gardens and has large glass doors which open to enable beautiful views to and from the garden.  It will be used for their many events which are held throughout the year, conferences and weddings.

RHS Rosemoor has been voted the best RHS gardens in UK and is certainly worth a visit.   There are a number of themed gardens around the entrance, a beautiful lake, cottage, garden, fruit and vegetable gardens and woodland walks and you can spend the whole day there exploring.  We try to go a couple of times a year as it looks so different depending on the season.

Marwood Hill Gardens

Closer to Ilfracombe we have the beautiful gardens are Marwood Hill which have 20 acres of gardens situated around 3 lakes in a valley that boasts the largest camellia collection in the UK and has the National Collection of Astilbes, Tulbaghia and Japanese Iris.   It is such a tranquil setting , we quite often go to wander around the gardens or sit on a bench by the lake to soak up the sun.  The Tea Room is a must for lunch or afternoon tea, as they have the most scrumptious cakes and scones.

Broomhill Sculpture Gardens

Broomhill is a must for both garden and art lovers alike as it combines the most beautiful gardens with a number of fascinating sculptures and it is a delight to wander around and discover all it has to offer.  There is an art gallery too and their award-winning restaurant Terre Madre which served the most amazing lunches.

Castle Hill Gardens, Filleigh

When you visit Castle Hill you will be so impressed by the stunning driveway leading up to the most perfect stately home you will ever see.  It sits with its majestic views of its gardens and truly is a joy to behold.  Unfortunately, it is a private house, so not open to the public (how I would love to take a look inside!).  The gardens, however, are open daily but closed each Saturday as they host weddings then.

Tapeley Park and Gardens, Instow

Lovely terraced gardens and woodland walk to a lake with stunning views across the estuary to Appledore.   There is a walled cottage garden, shop and tearoom.
